Another trade deadline, another big bat acquired by the New York Mets. Last year it was Cespedes and now this year it’s Jay Bruce. The Mets traded Dilson Herrera and Max Wotell to the Reds for Bruce. Bruce is hitting .265, with 25 homers, and 80 RBIs (leads National League).
This is a great deal for the Mets because they get the big bat they desperately needed without having to surrender too much. Bruce is also under contract for next season with a team option. They also get to keep Brandon Nimmio who was originally include in the deal, but will remain with the Mets. The Mets have the pitching to winning it all, but now they have the hitting needed to win as well. Cespedes and Bruce makes the Mets lineup dangerous.
As we saw last year with the Cespedes trade, it paid huge dividends for a Mets team that went all the way to the World Series. This team is hungry to get back to the World Series and get another chance to win the big one. These last two trade deadlines have been fantastic for Mets fans, who have suffered through so many heartbreaks and lost seasons.
