Watch out NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB Draft, because the WWE draft is back.
Raw had the first overall pick and choose Seth Rollins to be the face of the Raw brand. Smackdown Live responds by picking Dean Ambrose second overall. This was expected given the results of Ambrose V Rollins from Monday Night Raw. This opens the door for two world championships.
The 3rd overall pick was Women’s champion Charolette to Raw. Smackdown choose The Phenomenal AJ Styles fourth overall. Raw selected the first of six NXT superstars in Finn Baylor.
With the first five picks we see a theme of smackdown focusing on the wrestling aspects while raw focusing more on the entertainment aspect. Those five picks concluded the first round.
In the second round we see Raw draft Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and The New Day.
Smackdown Live responds by drafting veterans John Cena and Randy Orton. Both superstars bring credibility and star power to the blue brand.
Round three sees raw draft The Boss, Sasha Banks, the ultimate underdog, Sami Zayn and the best in the world, Chris Jericho.
Smackdown Live takes the new face of fear Bray Wyatt and the Irish Lass Kicker, Becky Lynch. The first woman taken for smackdown.
Round 4 is where we see both United States and Intercontinental champion drafted. Rusev and Lana are staying on Raw, while The Miz and Maryse are taking the Intercontinental championship to smackdown. Kevin Owens, Enzo and Cass also remains on raw, while Baron Corbin is drafted to Smackdown.
In round 5 we saw the breakup of the Club with Gallows and Anderson being drafted to Raw. Styles was drafted by Smackdown in the first round. Raw drafts the 2nd NXT superstar in Nia Jax, and Smackdown counters by drafting popular NXT tag team American Alpha. Veterans Big Show (Raw) and Dolph Ziggler (Smackdown) were also drafted.
Round six sees Raw taking Neville, Cesaro, and Sheamus. Smackdown Live takes Natalya and Alberto Del Rio. This the final round conducted on TV with the rest continuing on the WWE Network.
This draft was a little lackluster to say the least compared to previous drafts. Watching Shane, Stephanie, Mick and Daniel just announce picks was not must see TV. There was was no drama, suspense or incentive with each pick. It felt completely random at times.
